Key Worker Support

Family-centred developmental support for autistic and neurodivergent children

The Key Worker Model provides practical, capacity-building support and coordination for children and families. It focuses on helping children participate in everyday routines at home, in early learning or school, and in the community, while building caregiver confidence and reducing day-to-day stress. Key Worker support is different from Support Coordination as it focuses on the developmental stage and needs of children. Our Key Workers focus on progress monitoring and coaching caregivers, embedding strategies in routines, and coordinating therapy priorities in a clear and measurable way.

How we work

Our Key Worker approach is strengths-based, neuro-affirming, and grounded in what works in real life. We take time to understand the child and family context, then build a plan that is practical, measurable, and easy to implement between sessions.

In practice, this means we:

  • learn the child’s strengths, interests, needs, communication style, sensory profile, and the family’s priorities

  • build a plan that fits your routines and supports meaningful participation

  • review progress regularly and adjust supports as your child grows and circumstances change

What a Key Worker does

Your Key Worker can help with:

  • building a clear developmental profile and support plan based on current strengths, needs, and functional capacity

  • translating assessment information into practical, step-by-step strategies for home and learning settings

  • coaching families to embed strategies between sessions, so progress continues outside appointments

  • supporting routines such as eating, sleep, toileting, transitions, communication, play, learning, and independence skills

  • coordinating therapy priorities across the team so everyone is working toward shared goals

  • liaising with early learning services, schools, and other providers to improve consistency and carryover

  • supporting transitions, for example starting kinder, moving to school, changing settings, or introducing new supports

Next steps

If you would like to explore Key Worker support, we can start with an intake session to understand your child’s strengths, current needs, and family priorities. From there, we develop a short-term plan with clear goals, practical strategies, and review points so you can see what is changing and why.
